- ~Could someone please tell me what they think would be a
- ~good CPS rate for a 14.4 V.42 connection.
-
- ~I would expect you could do better depending on the
- ~compressibility of the data. I also expect that there's
- ~some overhead for ECC. I've been doing downloads lately
- ~and have been getting anywhere from 1000 to 2300 CPS.
- ~Sounds to me like the 2300 CPS figure was for pretty
- ~compressible data, but the 1000 CPS figures seem kind of
- ~low.

-
- This may sound strange but...
- Anything from approximately 5 % over the modems DTE rating down to a crawl.
- There are so many variables involved within this question, no matter how
- many times asked, it's nearly impossible to answer with any certainty or
- creditability. One of the biggest variables that everyone seems to overlook
- is the ability the uploading modem has in sending data! If an uploading
- modem can't send faster than 4,000 CPS that's the fastest you can download.
- To be more specific: I've downloaded everywhere between 245 and 8,000 CPS
- with a 14.4. Using a 115,200 bps LAPM (8:1) modem connecting with another
- 115,200 bps LAPM (8:1) modem to achieve the high end.
